Australian Bike Program Visits

By Sue Knaup, Executive Director

Over the years, my work for One Street has taken me to Europe, South America, and Africa where we’ve enjoyed long-term success with many bicycle organization partners. Now, because of one of my favorite activities (besides bicycling), I have the opportunity to connect with new bicycle colleagues on a different continent.

In mid-October, I will travel to Australia staying six weeks to compete in two boxing competitions – first in Brisbane then in Melbourne, stopping in Sydney along the way. I plan to visit bicycle programs in each of these cities. If you know of particular bicycle programs you think would benefit by connecting with One Street, please email me their website link: sue{at}onestreet.org.

Bosnian Partners Led Successful Campaign Training

Phase III of our campaign planning partnership project with Center for Environment (CfE) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is well underway after a successful campaign training led by CfE at the end of June. The leaders of the campaigns – including intersection redesign, bicycle provisions, and street trees – are now working through their action steps toward success.

Find the report from our partners at CfE and some great photos from the training here.

Cycling in Denmark Study Trip October 2-4

Learn from some of the most successful bicycle activists in Denmark as you cycle with them on this trip to model bicycle infrastructure examples. Learn more and sign up here.

Resources – USDOT Reconnecting Communities Grant

Just a few weeks remain to submit your application for this U.S. grant funding to reconnect your community where it was divided by transportation infrastructure such as freeways and other high-speed roads. Deadline is September 28. Find all the details here.

Hot Topics – New Law Decriminalizes Jaywalking

On January 1st this year, California’s Freedom to Walk law went into effect allowing pedestrians to cross a road wherever they please. For more than a century, jaywalking, a derogatory term used for pedestrians crossing between intersections, has been criminalized by laws pushed by the auto-industry. Californians finally succeeded in pushing back against this injustice. Read about the new law here.
